HIGHLIGHTS

To achieve fast retooling times in the case of frequent dimensional changes while using the same compound, KraussMaffei Berstorff extrusion dies are equipped with a "double comb-shaped wedge". By opening the outer comb-shaped wedge, only the final die can be replaced, while the inner comb-shaped wedge holds the housing and splicing bar in the closed position. This minimizes scrap and allows production to start up again quickly.
The upper and lower parts of the head can be opened separately, in order to reduce the set-up time and the incidental waste when emptying the extruder for compound changes.
A further option for reducing the set-up time is to use a manual cassette changer. In this case, 2 cassettes with splice bar and final die are used. Whereas a cassette is used in production, the other can be prepared for the next production run in the change position by equipping it with a splice bar and final die.
